Resonant Damping of Kink Modes in Solar Coronal Slabs

We examine resonantly damped kink modes in straight coronal slabs, paying special attention to the effects of formulation for transverse density distribution ("profile"). work framework pressure-less, gravity-free, resistive magnetohydrodynamics, and we adopt dissipative-eigenmode perspective. The profile is restricted be one-dimensional, but nonetheless allowed take a generic form characterized by continuous transition layer connecting uniform interior exterior. A dispersion relation (DR) derived thin-boundary limit, yielding analytical expressions eigenfrequencies that generalize known results various aspects. find rather than numerical solutions DR serve better purpose validating our self-consistent solutions. More importantly, are found sensitive specifications, ratio imaginary real part readily varying factor two when one used place another. Our eigenmode computations also examined context impulsively excited waves, suggesting importance resonant absorption sufficiently oblique components spatial scale exciter comparable slab half-width.
